Forest-Vill Zrt. built a system with an installed capacity of 99.8 MW in Buj

The largest battery energy storage system in the Central European region has been commissioned in Buj, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. With a total installed capacity of 99.8 MW and a storage capacity of 288.5 MWh, it is a significant addition to the region’s energy infrastructure. Designed and constructed by Forest-Vill Zrt., this complex comprises two facilities that are unique both nationally and regionally. It will contribute to the stability of the national electricity system and the efficient integration of renewable energy sources.

Hungary’s largest electricity storage facility has been completed in the village of Buj, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, with the design and construction work carried out by Forest-Vill Zrt. Commissioned by the Portuguese-owned Greenvolt Power, two independent energy storage systems equipped with BYD-manufactured batteries have been put into operation. The first facility, implemented by Buj Energy Storage, has a capacity of 49.9 MW and a storage capacity of 144.3 MWh, for which approximately 5.679 billion forints in non-repayable EU RRF funding was provided. The second system, developed by Buj Battery, was built with the same technical specifications and received 5.677 billion forints in funding.

Forest-Vill Zrt. was awarded the contract in December 2024, and the work continued through May 2026. The system consists of units based on lithium-iron-phosphate battery technology, which ensures high thermal stability, enhanced safety, and a long service life. Together, the two projects currently form the largest battery energy storage complex in the Central European region, capable of supplying power to more than 40,000 households during a single discharge cycle. The modular, container-based design enables scalable, flexible operation, while advanced monitoring and control platforms ensure continuous system diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and seamless integration with the grid. Forest-Vill Zrt. played a key role in the successful implementation of the project, and in the future, the Budaörs-based company will also be responsible for the complex operation and maintenance of the substation system components that have been installed.

Forest-Vill Zrt., which is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its founding this year, has played a role in numerous projects related to renewable energy generation and utilization in recent years. The company also built MET Dunai Energiatároló Zrt.’s energy storage system in Százhalombatta, which has a total rated capacity of 40 MW and a storage capacity of 80 MWh. The system was connected to the power grid in June 2025 and was the country’s largest until the Buji energy storage facility was commissioned.
